Produced by the vocalist of Textures (I should say ex-vocalist since he left the band earlier this year). So if you like Textures or even Hacride, don't miss out on this one.

It took Cynic 15 years to release another album. Not as shocking as "Focus", but still a great release nonetheless.

Even when listening it in 2009, the sound of Cynic's Focus still sounds modern and interesting. It must have truely been a ground breaking one 16 years ago... If you liked Kalisia's Cybion, it's likely that you will find Cynic and enjoyable release. Note that this is the 2004 re-release edition.

Normally, I don't really listen to Technical Death Metal, but Cosmogenesis has some nice melodies in it as well as a distinct bass line that's quite memorable.

After reading a lot of positive comments on this release, I decided to give this French metal band a go too. As a fairly regular listener of Progressive Metal, I was not disappointed and was even caught by surprise by many moments. The styles are really varied, with traditional sounds as well as space-like keyboard driven moments. Vocals can range from death to soothing female ones or weird robotic ones.
The whole album is very melodic, yet there is no chorus bits. According to the band, the CD has to listened from beginning till end and treat it as one whole song rather than divide them into individual tracks as it illustrates a whole story. Much care has been put into this album as it features a new language crafted by the composer himself, and even the track names are tailored to great detail (all of them are two words and the initials of them are in alphabetical order)!
There's also a bonus CD that includes their 1995 demo and some cool cover songs by Dream Theater, Cynic, Emperor and Loudblast.
